What's 'ORIENTATION Week'?
These are the days in the week before lectures start when all new students come into Maynooth University (MU) to register, get their student card and get an introduction to college life.
What can I expect?
This is basically your Welcome Week; you will get your Student Card (say cheese!), meet your new classmates, find out more about the many MU services, get the tour and know where you have to be on the first day of lectures, but most importantly- you’ll get to meet your Students’ Union officers!
All registered students are members of Maynooth Students’ Union (MSU) and we make sure we speak to all new students during Orientation Week so that you know who we are and how to contact us if needs be. All these activities are designed to help you in the transition to University life.
Where does it all happen?
MU has a comprehensive Orientation process, so you will be visiting many parts of the campus. Keep an eye out for an official letter from the University which will tell you when you need to show up.
We will also be running events in the SU Building all week- at lunchtime and in the SU Bar & Venue in the evening. Pop along and see what's going on!
Any hints or tips?
Your student card will stay with you for a long time, so make sure you take a few minutes to look your best for your Inductions Day as your picture will be taken as part of the registration process.
Your Student Officers can be found in their offices, which are located in the Students’ Union Building along with your Student Bar, Venue and Info Centre. Please pop on down to see us if you have any problems or questions, or even just to say hello!
Above all- RELAX! It will take time to get used to all the new stuff that will be happening throughout your time here. Take it easy on yourself for the first week. Trying to meet new people appears daunting, but everyone is in the same boat. Just say ‘Hello’ to people on your course and take it from there!
