The Cost of College in Ireland continues to be ridiculously high and out of reach for so many. Students like you or your families are paying the HIGHEST FEES IN THE EU just to get a decent education. This is NOT GOOD ENOUGH; education should be a right and NOT a privilege. It is for this reason that MSU is joining with the Union of Students in Ireland to protest the outrageous cost of college in Ireland and the sub-par conditions that students are expected to work in this year as well as every other year. The protest will take place next Tuesday the 23rd of November at 2pm at Molesworth Street in Dublin to march on the Dáil.
MSU has outlined Key Demands from Government specifically for Maynooth Students:
Fees – ‘Where’s My Money?’ Students are paying the highest fees in the European Union!! As well as a Student Levy and other extortionate associated fees, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Student Space and Services – Students deserve spaces and services to sit, study, socialize and exist on campus!
Accommodation – No Keys – No Degrees: there can be NO increase to rent and we need to DEMAND funding from government to build affordable, good quality and safe purpose-build student accommodation.
Student Life – Investment in our Students Union & Clubs & Societies so they can run good quality, fun and safe Events that students deserve after an isolating pandemic.
We are asking all students, staff and families who have been affected by the chronic underfunding of our third level sector to join with us next week and let's make the voices of Maynooth and other campuses across the country heard loud and clear!
We have set up a Supporter Pack that you can access to show your support! We also have an expression of interest MS Form that you can give us your email to stay up to date on all the info about the protest and how to get there. We also encourage you to make social media posts and Tok-Toks outlining how the #CostOfCollege is impacting you and why you’ll be protesting and make sure to tag @theUSI and @MaynoothSU
This will be our first protest off the back of the pandemic so we need to use this opportunity to make the student voice heard, please join us and support the campaign!
