Uachtarán | President

Ty Layberry-Ling

Haigh a chairde!

Is mise Ty, and I am delighted to be your AMLMN-MSU Uachtarán (President) for the 2026/27 academic year. I previously served on the Executive Team as your Vice President Welfare and Equality, and before becoming a full-time officer, I worked in the Students' Union Info Centre alongside our wonderful Front Office Manager, Ann Marie. I also am completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Music here at Maynooth University.

As Uachtarán, I am responsible for providing the overall leadership and strategic direction of AMLMN-MSU, while supporting and overseeing our Executive Team. My role is to ensure that the Students' Union continues to represent, support, and advocate for every student. If there is an issue that you believe the Union should address – whether within the University, the Students' Union, or at a national level –I would love to hear from you. Student feedback is at the heart of everything we do, and my goal is to ensure that every student feels listened to and represented.

One of my main priorities this year is to strengthen communication between the Executive Team and the student body. Our officers work hard every day to improve the student experience, and I want to ensure that students are aware of the work being carried out on their behalf. Whether you have a question, concern, suggestion, or simply want to learn more about the Union, my door is always open.

If you're interested in getting involved, I would strongly encourage you to do so. Whether through volunteering, joining Student Senate, becoming involved in clubs and societies, or even running for election in the future, there are so many opportunities to make the most of your time at university. Serving as Vice President Welfare and Equality was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and it inspired me to continue serving students as Uachtarán.

A little about me – I am originally from Derry and moved to Maynooth five years ago to begin my undergraduate degree. Like many students, I came here knowing very few people, but I loved Maynooth so much that I decided to stay after graduating and continue working to improve the student experience. Looking back, my only regret is that I didn't get involved in the Union or in clubs and societies sooner. The friendships, opportunities, and experiences they have given me have genuinely changed my life, and I would encourage every student to get involved whenever they can – it's never too late to start.

If you see me around campus, please don't hesitate to stop for a chat or ask a question. Meeting students and hearing about your experiences is one of my favourite parts of this role, and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the year.

I wish you every success in the year ahead, and I look forward to working with you to make Maynooth the best experience it can be.

Le meas,

Ty Layberry-Ling
