Vice President Welfare & Equality | Leas-Uachtarán Leasa agus Chomhionnanais

Ty Layberry-Ling

Haigh a chairde, my name is Ty and I am your Vice President Welfare & Equality in Maynooth Students’ Union for this coming academic year.

I am originally from Derry, and I moved to Maynooth four years ago in order to study both Music and Psychology for my bachelor's at Maynooth University. This year I will be your go-to person for any queries that you may have relating to mental health, sexual health, accommodation issues, financial worries, personal safety, or if you just need to have someone to speak to. Whether you need help with navigating college services or are just having a tough time and want to chat about what is available in order to support you through your college experience, I’m here with open ears and zero judgement. College can be the best years of your life; yet they also can be draining, and so it is important to remember to prioritise your wellbeing.

I also work hard behind the scenes to fight for equality and inclusion for all on campus. That means advocating for students from all different backgrounds – BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, international students, parents, carers, and anyone facing systemic barriers. From running campaigns and wellbeing events, to ensuring that your voice is heard and prioritised at the decision-making table. I’m here to make college a fairer and kinder place for everyone; if there is something that needs fixing, challenging, or structures that need tearing down, I’ve got your back. You can team up with me to organise protests, petitions, direct actions – whatever it takes to demand the change that you deserve. If there is anything within the university that is unjust, outdated, or just plain wrong, you do not have to stay silent. You deserve to thrive – and I’m here to help make that happen!

Feel free to reach out to me with any queries, questions or concerns that you may have throughout the duration of the year. Slάn go fόil,

Ty Layberry-Ling.
